HISTORY

Palm Beach’s historic water-side Royal Poinciana Playhouse is the focus site for building the new Palm Beach Performing Arts Center

YESTERDAY:  The Royal Poinciana Playhouse, built in 1959 as a producing theater, was renowned for hosting an impressive A-List roster of celebrities.   Children and families dressed in their Sunday-best to thrill over exciting performances.  VIPs donned furs and jewels to see and be seen at its high-caliber entertaining performances.  When the lights shined on stage, guests were delighted to immerse in the moment, extinguishing anything of outside concern.

Sadly, in 2004, an economic downturn amidst the new theater trend for grander and larger staging snuffed the Playhouse lights.  For 10 years, the Playhouse remained empty and dark.  Absent of updates, the forgotten stage, its equipment and absolute facility stood vacant and forlorn, deteriorating and failing the test of time.  Unsafe, inaccessible and unable to meet requirements for public safety and use, its memories of glory, fame and sanctity uniformly faded in decay.

TODAY:  Introducing an experienced, successful team of professionals together with the energy, ambition and prowess to spark reigniting renowned world-class performing arts for Palm Beach!   The Palm Beach Performing Arts Center (PBPAC) team garnered a long-term lease with the Sterling Organization to bring exciting high-quality opportunities of world-renown performing arts to the PBPAC.  Breathing new life by building this highest-quality, town-serving arts entity for Palm Beach will once again shine the lights on stage and create a cultural legacy markedly enriching the quality of life for Palm Beach.

UNIQUELY NESTLED WATER-SIDE AND IN PALM BEACH, its LOCATION ensures coveted views, thus further increasing the desire and demand for this Lincoln Center scale-equivalent performing arts center for Palm Beach.
